The Jan 23 post by Night Owl Cards
night owl cards inspired me to show some of my collection of baseball brothers and families. Starting above with the Delehanty Brothers: Hall of Famer Ed, Frank, and Jim. There were two other Delahanty brothers that also played briefly in MLB (Joe and Tom), but I haven't seen any cards of them.
The DiMaggio brothers are shown below on Gum Inc. Playball Reprints.
The Boyer brothers are shown below on 1969 Topps (Clete and Ken), and 1976 JDM/JMC of a 1955 Rodeo Meat Commemorative Set (Cloyd).
The Alou brothers actually played together on the same team in the same game in 1963 as shown on the box score below. Felipe and Matty are shown on 1963 Topps, and Jesus on a 1964 Topps.
Felipe's son Moises is shown below on a 2006 Topps Opening Day. BTW, his brother is new Mets manager Luis Rojas, but he never played in the Majors.
The Cruz brothers all played for the Cardinals at one point, I think in the same season, but I don't think they all played on the field together in the same game.

Jose's son, Jose Cruz Jr., is shown on a 2002 Topps Opening Day card.
The Perez brothers are shown below on 1988 Fleer (Melido and Pascual), and 1991 Classic Best (Carlos).
The Molina Brothers are shown on 2009 Upper Deck.
And lastly, the Drew brothers.

The funny thing about card collecting is noticing something new each time you look through a collection. Recently, I came across this 1981 Topps of Pirates Future Stars Vance Law, Tony Pena, and Pascual Perez. A group of prospects that went on to fine MLB careers. But then I realized that they all had a father, brother(s), and/or sons that are MLB connections. So here they are:
Law Father and Son:

1985 Topps |
|
1967 Topps |
Tony Pena's brother:
|
1990 Topps |
Tony Pena's sons:

The Perez brothers (again):
Lots of Blogger and scan issue in this post - my apologies (Grrr).
So there are others (Aaron?), and you may know of more. Please LMK if you do.
Meanwhile, peace and be well!

Cool post! My father-in-law and I used to say that if you want to have a good pitching staff, you "gotta have a Molina!" because it always seemed like one of the 3 brothers was doing something great behind the plate.
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt! Jadier had a good shot at the hall someday!
DeleteI never knew there was a third Boyer brother who played baseball. Also never heard the name "Cloyd" before.
