2006 National Baseball Hall of Fame Postcard (butchered by my lousy scanner - Grrr!). |

1987 (?) Hygrade (?) |
This Baseball Immortals card is one of the ugliest cards I've ever seen! It's up there with Max Manning's Negro League card from the 1986 Fritsch set. I'm glad Hygrade (or whoever it is that made this set) made one of Jake because there are so few (and affordable) cards of him out there. That is true about many of the people featured in this set.

Monarch Corona |
Beckley played 7 seasons with the Reds from 1897 - 1903. He batted .345, .294, .333, .341, .307, .330, & .327 for a .325 career batting average in a Reds uniform that ranks third on Cincinnati's all-time list behind Cy Seymour (.332) and Edd Roush (.331).
Beckley was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971, but he wasn't enshrined in the Reds Hall of Fame until 2014. I did a little lobbying on his behalf after learning of his fine Cinci career and like to think it helped.
Jake doesn't show too well in my collection. As a National Baseball and Cincinnati Red Hall of Famer I have to do a better job of finding some nicer cards.
Be well,
CinciCuse Bill
Wow. Beckley looks like two different people on his Baseball Immortals and Monarch Corona cards.
ReplyDeleteWow that Hygrade is a hideous card. Still need one of Beckley for my HOF collection but would hate to settle for that one!
ReplyDeleteHow's your HOF collection coming along? I'm still 3 away from having at least one card of everyone in the Hall. Do you try to collect certain types of cards of the members (autos, rookie, etc.)? LMK, I might be able to help you out.
DeleteI think it might actually be SSPC, not Hygrade. That is one hell of a drawing though!
DeleteYeah your right. I'm finally checking with the BB Card Database. Good call.
DeleteWow, he really doesn't have many affordable cards at all. I need to track down one of his cards for my All-Time Teams set. I might have to settle for that Panini Cooperstown plaque card, unless I can find a Goodwin Champions single from 2013.
ReplyDeleteRight, there just aren't many out there. What's your All-Time Teams set consist of? Best season or career of players for all positions all time on a team? Other? Just curious.
