1984 Donruss Champions card #51.
This my third of three posts on Johnny Bench. This post features cards in my collection of Bench from his post-playing days. I have quite a few more in my collection in this category than I'm showing here, but these are some of the more interesting cards (to me).

2000 Fleer Greats of the Game - Retrospection card #15. Retrospective of 1960 Fleer card set.
2002 Topps T206 card #158.
2003 Topps Tribute World Series card #146.
2003 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Classic card #47.
2010 Topps Turkey Red card #TR21.
2011 Topps Lineage card #137.
2012 Topps Gypsy Queen card #226.
2013 Topps Gypsy Queen - Collisions at the Plate card #CP-JB.

2019 Topps Allen & Ginter card #GG-3.

2019 Topps Allen & Ginter card #BSS-32.
The early 1970's was filled with a slew of young catchers that excelled on offense and defense, but Bench transformed the position like no other with his rare combination of power with excellent defense. He was flanked by the likes of Manny Sanguillen of the Pirates, Thurman Munson of the Yankees, and Hall of Famers Carlton Fisk of the Red Sox and Ted Simmons of the Cardinals. And in the mid 1970's, Hall of Famer Gary Carter came along. There might have never been a decade filled with a better group of catchers.

I hope you enjoyed flipping through my Johnny Bench collection. Funny, since I began drafting these three Bench posts I have received three more Bench cards! Oh well, more to show in the future.

Be well,

CinciCuse Bill

  1. The 70's sure did have some awesome catchers with Bench leading the way. My favorite card in this group is the 2010 Turkey Red insert. Looks like it should be hanging up in a museum.
