Eric the Red!
Cincinnati Reds team Hall of Famer Eric Davis is a member of the exclusive 30-30 club, earned three Gold Gloves, and won a World Series with the Reds in 1990. Later in his career Davis defeated a ruthless and dangerous opponent, colon cancer.
From Wikipedia "Davis was blessed with a mesmerizing combination of athletic ability, including excellent foot and bat speed, tremendous power, and superlative defensive acumen."
I'm so glad I held on to this SI issue!

My favorite card in this post: There are many great ones, but I'm going with the 1996 Kahn's #NNO card.
What's yours?
Thanks for stopping by!

My favorite would be the 1988 SLU card. Love that set and the red border design goes perfectly with Reds players.
ReplyDeleteOther than having a bunch of his cards in sets way back when, my only other connection to anything Eric Davis is from a pair of brothers that I was friends with as a kid. They were baseball junkies, and were also obsessed with trying to figure out who all other kids hit like when we got together and played baseball. According to them, my style resembled that of Eric Davis. I don't know how accurate it was, but will probably never forget that.
ReplyDeleteThat’s a great memory!
DeleteGreat guy for a post. My brother and I pretended we were Darryl Strawberry and Eric Davis all the time. I was Davis. I loved his game and athleticism. Thanks for the memories!
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure!
Delete'88 Topps is my favorite Davis card that's not one of his Dodger cards. '91 Upper Deck comes second.
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite Eric Davis card is the Tony Perez card from 1986 Topps.
ReplyDeleteI should add that one to this collection!
DeleteVery cool cards, and the SI Issue is awesome. As a non-Reds fan, it's easy to forget just how good Davis was when healthy.
